All members of jazzSmells were studying the tradition of Jazz and adore it – as a vivid language. Wolfgang, David and Klaus interact on stage, exploring new grounds, teasing each other, challenging each other, getting again together to a tight collectiveness. The trio-setting offers a maximum of flexibility and spontaneous reaction. The realisation of complex compositions can be achieved in this way. Not the melody instrument, the drum set is the heart of jazzSmells, delivering an astonishing melodic and creative quality.
Wolfgang belongs to the most renowned drum players in Germany. He has played together with jazz-legends such as Joachim Kühn, Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz and John Abercrombie. He also worked with innovative projects like „Das böse Ding“. Furthermore he is teaching at the Kölner Musikhochschule and the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen.
David writes and arranges music for film and radio. He has been awarded with the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. He shared stage with the Uli Beckerhoff Group, Alex Gunias and Barry Ryan.
Klaus has been leading own ensembles like „Streetscenes“ and has played together with David and Wolfgang in the Klaus Fey & Uwe Granitza Quintett for several years. He also played together with Sigi Busch, Uli Beckerhoff and Florian Poser.
